About Us – Melton Theatre

Our Story

Melton theatre was built over 40 years ago and has supported many college and community ventures plus many other touring productions and artists. The theatre was refurbished during the summer of 2009 and its 340 fixed seat auditorium is a great asset for the people of Melton and Leicestershire at a time when small community theatres are under huge financial pressures. The theatre is a proud member of the SMB College Group family of subsidiary companies and is used by the college to train the next generation of performers and behind the scenes technicians. The theatre features a large stage with optional orchestra pit, full counter weight flying and an adaptable lighting and sound system. Melton Mowbray – A Purple Flag Town

Melton Mowbray holds Purple Flag status for its evening and night-time economy. Purple Flag is a town and city centre award – similar to the Blue Flag for beaches – which aims to raise the standard and broaden the appeal of town and city centres between the hours of 17:00 & 05:00. Areas awarded the Purple Flag are recognised for providing a vibrant and diverse mix of dining, entertainment and culture while promoting the safety and wellbeing of visitors and local residents.
Melton Mowbray is the first town in Leicestershire to be awarded Purple Flag status from the Association of Town and City Management. Melton Theatre operates as a key part of the Evening Economy for Melton Mowbray, and we are proud of our contributions towards this successful application for Purple Flag status.
